3 days in Provence

Your private 3 days tour from Avignon

The itinerary below can be changed, I am very flexible, if you have your own ideas, I can customize the tour (for instance, Isle sur la sorgue , instead Roussillon).

You want to visit Aix en Provence, Marseille and Cassis, we can add one more day tour.

Day One

Gordes is one of the “in” villages of Luberon where many movies stars and artists have made their home.
Its houses of white and gray stone rise up in a spiral around the rock where the village is set.
At the very top is the church and the castle which face out onto the hills of the Luberon.

Abbey of Senanque only during lavender season, fields blooming from end of june till mid of July.

Roussillon
Situated in the Luberon, at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse, the village of Roussillon is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is considered one of the most impressive villages in France.
Situated in the heart of one of the biggest ocher deposits in the world, Roussillon is famous for its magnificent red cliffs and ocher quarries.

Lacoste
The village and its winding streets with stone houses.
The Marquis de Sade castle (private, open for visits only in Summer).
The splendid view onto the village of Bonnieux.

Fontaine de Vaucluse
The famous spring.
Where one of the world’s most extraordinary resurgences gushes forth. Nature’s own mystery, the underground spring can be a surging fury or a placid lake, depending on the season.

Day two

Saint Rémy de Provence
Market day on Wednesday Morning.

The St-Paul-De-Mausole Clinic
Van Gogh was treated for mental illness, is a good place to start exploring. Its cloisters now house the Valétudo art  and music-therapy centre, which was created in 1995 and includes a permanent exhibition of paintings by patients, many of them for sale.
Vincent Van Gogh produced about 150 paintings during his year in St-Rémy including many of his most famous works: Irises, Starry Night, Wheatfield with Cypress and Siesta.

Olive Oil Tasting stop before “Les Baux de Provence”

Les Baux-de-Provence is unique among the many attractions in Provence. It is both an ancient ruin and a quaint much visited town. It perches for nearly a mile along a narrow strip of land jutting up from the valley floor, and surrounded on three sides by the sheer jagged cliffs of the Alpilles Mountain range.

Option: Stop at “Carrières de Lumières”.
In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world.
Van Gogh, The Starry Night. A new exhibition from March 1st.

Arles The Arenas and Theatre Antique
Pop down to the interesting Théâtre Antique an outdoor Roman style semi circle theatre that sat 12,000 people. Emperor Augustus built it at the end of the first century BC. It was later used as a quarry, so much of what you see today is in ruins, but it is still used for outdoor performances.

Day three

Nîmes
Considered as the french romeNîmes has a rich history, dating back to the Roman Empire.

The elliptical Roman amphitheatre, of the 1st or 2nd century AD, is the best-preserved Roman arena in France. It was filled with medieval housing, when its walls served as ramparts, but they were cleared under Napoleon.

It is still used today as a bull fighting and concert arena.

The Pont du Gard for your lunch stop is located in the heart of a beautiful region, is one of the very special highlights.
This engineering feat, built by the Romans in the 1st century BC, was part of a 50-meter long aqueduct which carried waters from Uzès to Nîmes.

Orange and his Roman Theatre Built during Augustus’ reign , the theatre is rightly the pride of the city, as it is the only Roman theatre which has managed to conserve its stage wall almost intact.

Chateauneuf du Pape a Great vineyards tour to discover the best wine cellars. Wine tasting is a delicate art, our host will know how to surprise you in having you distinguish the different flavors in a wine.} The white wines offer a nuance of plums and white flowers.

Wine tasting can be replaced by another thing to do, of course. As Nimes, or Uzès.
