ItineraryDay One
Situated in the Luberon, at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse, the village of Roussillon is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is considered one of the most impressive villages in France. Situated in the heart of one of the biggest ocher deposits in the world, Roussillon is famous for its magnificent red cliffs and ocher quarries.
At the very top is the church and the castle which face out onto the hills of the Luberon
Van Gogh produced about 150 paintings during his year in St-Rémy including many of his most famous works : Irises, Starry Night, Wheatfield with Cypress and Siesta. Day two
The Fondation Van Gogh is another absolute ‘must do’ attraction in the area. Filled to bursting with works by contemporary artists.
A visit to the ancient arena, Les Arenes, open daily, except during events ; is a must. The views over the town’s higgledy-piggledy rooftops are worth the entrance fee alone. The arena is still home to regular bullfights and photography enthusiasts will enjoy the way the light falls on its ancient stones.
Pop down to the interesting Théâtre Antique an outdoor Roman style semi circle theatre that sat 12,000 people. Emperor Augustus built it at the end of the first century BC. It was later used as a quarry, so much of what you see today is in ruins, but it is still used for outdoor performances.
As always, Van Gogh fascinates . This year, Cathedrale d’images’ show is a journey for discovering his abundant paintings Open every day from March 1st, 2008 till January 6th 2009 From 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Closing time at 6 p.m from April 1st till September 30th. Day three Chateauneuf du Pape
The other reds are more structured with blended tannins that present a nice body with purple blue tint as well as an aromatic intensity with hints of red and black fruits and spices. The sun enables the elaboration of warm and rounded wines. These wine cellars have a real "savoir faire", they have mixed the best vines. Grand wines were born from their love and passion for their work. Orange
