The Wine Road in Provence

CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE - LES DENTELLES DE MONTMIRAIL -

Châteauneuf du Pape

is one of the most prestigious of the Côtes du Rhône wines. Its fame is partly due to its local growing conditions which include strong sunshine and low rainfall. The vineyard soil is covered with river pebbles which store the sun’s heat and release it at night. Many cellars are open to the public for tasting. Don’t Miss :

-  The Père Anselme Wine Museum

-  The ruins of the castle

The Dentelles de Montmirail and Beaumes de Venise, a village famous for its natural sweet wine known as Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. Several cellars offer visits and tasting. Don’t Miss :

-  The Oil Cooperative La Balméenne in Beaumes de Venise which shows a video on olive gathering and oil making. Closed on Sundays.

Vacqueyras and Gigondas, two other great Côtes du Rhône vintages.

Village of Séguret.

Ranked as "one of the most beautiful villages in France", Séguret looks like a living crèche scene. Traditional Provençal crèches represent villages peopled with small clay figures called "santons". During the Christmas season, each family sets up its own crèche scene, and most villages show crèches in their churches.

In Séguret, the santons made by santon maker Mr. Fournier are quite popular. Stop in, his workshops are open to the public.
