The perched villages in the Luberon
Gordes
The stone homes are built along the
hillside and winding around the château which crowns the village.
The Borie Village.
Bories are stone huts which were lived in and used up until the early 1900’s. They
can be seen throughout the countryside, and here in this village. Open every day.
The Sénanque Abbey, built in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, is one of the most beautiful
Romanesque abbeys in Provence. Sénanque is still lived in by the monks.
Bonnieux
Superb perched village.
The Cedar Forest. Walking path through the forest.
Planted in 1861 by woodsmen who brought seeds back from the Moroccan Atlas and planted them at the summit of the Luberon. Today, a vast cedar forest covers the crest.
Lacoste.
The village and its winding streets with stone houses.
The Marquis de Sade castle (private, not open for visits).
The splendid view onto the village of Bonnieux.
Ménerbes.
The village, ranked among "the most beautiful villages in France".
The Citadelle wine estate and the Corkscrew Museum. An amazing collection of over 1000 useful and
artistic objects, many one of a kind, from the 17th century to the present day. Open every day in season.
Oppède le Vieux.
The old village, 300 m altitude, overlooking the valley.
